Patient
& Family Education
216-844-3814
At the Ireland Cancer Center, patient and family education is
family-centered and individualized based on an assessment of
learning needs. The overall goal of patient education is to
empower patients and families to participate as full partners in
making informed decisions about their health and care.
Multidisciplinary staff members—including doctors, nurses,
social workers, dieticians, rehabilitation therapists,
psychologists, and music therapists—help patients enhance
their knowledge, self-care techniques, coping abilities, and
communication skills.
A variety of approaches are utilized:
- Disease or treatment-specific educational binders feature
instructional sheets and resource materials.
- Videos and books on cancer-related subjects are available
for loan.
- Pamphlets from the National Cancer Institute and American
Cancer Society are available at no cost.
- Support Groups offer psychosocial and emotional support to
patients and families.
