The American Cancer Society estimates that approximately
25,580 cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed in 2004.
Although it accounts for less than 4% of all cancers in women,
ovarian cancer causes more deaths than uterine or cervical
cancer. This is because ovarian cancer often does not have signs
and symptoms at its earliest stages, when it is highly curable.
At the Ireland Cancer Center, gynecologic oncologists are
available to perform the very specialized surgery that is
required to treat ovarian cancer. Further treatment options
include chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The gynecologic
cancer care team designs an individualized and comprehensive
treatment program that optimizes the chances of survival for
women with ovarian cancer.
