Head
and Neck Cancer
The American Cancer Society projects that there will be
28,260 new cases of oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer in 2004 in
the United States. An estimated 10,270 new cases of laryngeal
cancer will occur.
New therapies at the Ireland Cancer Center, including
intraoperative radiation, cytoprotective agents, and
photodynamic therapy, are just a few of the treatments used for
patients with head and neck cancers. These therapies are
provided through the concerted efforts of surgeons, radiation
oncologists, and medical oncologists who, as a team, offer each
patient optimal results.
